The class is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical equipment including lighting, motors, generators, controls, conduits, and wiring. The class works according to some procedures, but decides how and when to do things under general supervision.**_Supervision:_**Exercised:** Classification may supervise.**Received:** Incumbent reporting relationship is based on department.**Note:** Other reporting relationships may apply**## Example of Duties:The Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities is seeking an experienced Electrician to provide highly skilled electrical services Citywide.Duties may include but are not limited to:* Assembling, installing, testing and maintaining electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures;* Diagnosing and correcting malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components using test equipment and hand tools;* Connecting of wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components;* Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with appropriate codes;* Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of system;* Advising management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous;* Reading prints, schematics, and code books and calculates wattage, amperage, and ohms for purpose of making repairs;* Keeping records of assignments and produces detailed work reports;* Driving, stocking, and operating service and bucket trucks;* Coordinating job shutdowns with contractors for the purpose of major repairs;* Performing other related duties as assigned.## Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:Requires high school diploma or GED and formal training that is equivalent to the satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training.Requires six years of experience.An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.Journeyman's card.
